Owners and breeders
Breeder members can declare themselves the owner or breeder of a dog. This page explains what that does, and what happens when someone asks to be the owner or breeder of a dog that already has one.
Setting yourself as owner or breeder
- You need a Breeder membership.
- In the pedigree view, open the menu on a dog and choose Set me as owner, Set me as breeder or Set me as owner and breeder. The menu only offers the roles that are free.
- If the dog has no owner or breeder yet, or you already hold the other role, it happens straight away.
What it means
- Your name and email are included on all pedigree reports for that dog, in its Owner or Breeder field.
- The entry is locked: only its owner and breeder can edit or delete it. Anyone can still add photos and photo comments.
- Only the owner or breeder can add, edit or delete the dog's show results.
- You can undo it at any time with Remove me as owner or Remove me as breeder on the same menu.
Asking to be owner or breeder when someone else already is
If the dog already has a breeder and you ask to be its owner - or it has an owner and you ask to be its breeder - your request needs the approval of that person.
- They are emailed straight away, and see the request on their Owner/breeder requests page.
- If they don't approve or reject it, they are reminded by email every 14 days, up to 4 times.
- If it still isn't decided 14 days after the last reminder - 70 days after you asked - the request is cancelled and you are emailed. You can ask again.
- When they approve or reject it, you are emailed either way.
- Only one request per role can wait at a time. If someone else's request is already waiting, you'll be told.
- You can withdraw your request at any time from the Owner/breeder requests page, or from the dog's menu.
| Day | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0 | You ask; the owner/breeder is emailed |
| 14 | Reminder 1 of 4 to the owner/breeder |
| 28 | Reminder 2 of 4 to the owner/breeder |
| 42 | Reminder 3 of 4 to the owner/breeder |
| 56 | Reminder 4 of 4 to the owner/breeder |
| 70 | Not decided: the request is cancelled and you are emailed |
If you are the one being asked
- Your Owner/breeder requests page lists each request with the requester's name and email, so you can contact them first.
- Approve sets them as the dog's owner or breeder. Reject closes the request. They are emailed either way.
- Setting yourself as that role closes the request too, and the requester is told.
- If you remove yourself and that leaves the dog with no owner or breeder, a request still waiting has nobody left to approve it, so it is granted, and the requester is told.
- After you log in, the page you land on shows how many requests are waiting for you.
